Puksta Scholars Serve at Project C.U.R.E.
MARCH 1ST, 2008
Twenty Puksta Scholars from the University of Denver, and University of Colorado at Boulder, and Colorado State University joined forces on March 1, to participate in the Puksta Foundation’s biannual Joint Service Project at Project C.U.R.E. in Denver. Puksta Scholars are undergraduate students committed to making positive change in their communities. Serving together gives the Puksta Scholars a chance to get to know members from the other school sites and learn about community issues. At Project CURE scholars did their part to impact the global health community. Each Puksta Scholars helped by sorting medical supplies, cleaning the warehouse and preparing supplies to be shipped to sites around the world. During the course of the day, the Puksta scholars sorted over $100,000 in medical supplies and prepared them for shipment to some of the most impoverished areas of the globe.
Project CURE has impacted hospitals and clinics in 100 countries around the world. Its main purpose is to identify, solicit, collect, sort and distribute medical supplies and services according to the imperative needs of the world.
In addition to working with Project CURE, the Puksta Scholars met with Jennifer Gueddiche of the African Community Center. The African Community Center is Denver’s newest refugee resettlement program, focusing on assisting refugees with the transition from their home countries to the Denver area. Jennifer explained the medical issues facing refugees when they come to the United States. |
