Our Puksta Scholars at Metropolitan State University visited the Denver Center for Visual Art last night to see an exhibit right up Puksta`s alley - Pressing for Change!
Artists in this exhibition critically confront contemporary social issues. As printmakers, they provide an accessible voice for change. Through a variety of approaches, these print makers inspire action while exploring relationships of community, land, and the environment. We highly recommend going to see it if you live in the area!

Each year, Puksta scholars collectively contribute more than 6,000 hours to projects that affect social change in in our state. Incredibly, they perform this work while also pursuing degrees at Colorado`s finest institutions. That`s nearly a full day every day, all year round when Puksta Scholars are involved in supporting their communities!

So much fun visiting our CU Denver Scholars this week! As the group reconnected after break, we got to hear about: deep personal reflection & transformation around changing a major and career track, managing a personal business, and engaging in student government to create a place for muslim prayer on campus! Jaimie Carrington led a discussion on the topic of failing upwards. How powerful to consider the innumerable gifts that have come from the moments where we felt we were failing - wow!
Such a great time visiting our CSU Puksta Scholars!!! At their meeting we talked about our Winter Retreat we just had and got some amazing ideas to implement for next year!!
The scholars got into groups and worked together on the abstracts to compete at Murals - Multicultural Undergraduate Research Art and Leadership Symposium (MURALS) is an undergraduate research and artistry symposium that provides a platform for undergraduate students with marginalized identities to showcase their scholarly work. Or in our case their Puksta Scholarly work ☺️!! Watching them work and collaborate together, I know that they are all going to crush it!! Sam and Diana, thank you for leading such a great meeting and for the wonderful meal! Puksta`s keep up the good work and we will see you at Murals... we will be cheering for you all! 📣 @murals_csu
What a great night spending some time with our DU Puksta Scholars at one of their bi-weekly meetings. We got to catch up over a delicious dinner, while Gio showed off his new bass playing skills! After... everyone went around to discuss what they are working on and received helpful feedback and advice from each other. Could not be more proud of this group!! They are addressing so many important issues in our society from advocating for and helping to build confidence in young girls, healthcare for undocumented communities, access to higher education, opening opportunities to high school seniors to explore careers in STEM, creating policy change for healthcare and education equity to name a few! Thank you John Macikas for leading such a wonderful meeting... Keep up the amazing work Puksta`s and last but not least... another Shout out to Gio 🎂 HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎊🎈🎁 !! @du_ccesl
Puksta Alumni, Alex Landau, founded and is doing some amazing work with the Denver Justice Project Commission to advocate for a man who was wrongly charged after being attacked in Denver in June.
